Haukagil (Haukur Gorge)

Two berserks (frenzied warriors), both named Haukur, were beaten to death at Haukagil (Haukur Gorge).

More: Ólafur lived at Haukagil. His daughter Ásdís married Óttar of Grímstungur. Their son was Hallfreður the Troublesome Poet. Two berserks (frenzied warriors), both named Haukur, came to Haukagil during a feast. On the advice of Bishop Friðrekur, who was there to preach the Christian faith, three fires were kindled on the floor of the longhouse, with men on both sides armed with heavy cudgels. When the berserks entered, they walked through the fires and suffered burns, and were then beaten to death. Their bodies were taken to the gorge now called Haukagil (Haukur Gorge).
