Skíðastaðir (Skíði’s Place)

At Skíðastaðir, Bergur the Bold of Borg was beaten by Jökull, with the hilt of his sword Ættartangi.

More: Þorgrímur of Minni-Borg married Þorbjörg, daughter of Skíði, at Skíðastaðir (Skíði’s Place). Many guests attended the wedding, including the sons of Ingimundur and Finnbogi the Strong and Bergur the Bold of Borg. Bergur’s clothes were frozen. “He walked past Þorsteinn and said ‘Get out of my way, man.’ He shoved past , so that Þorsteinn stumbled and almost fell into the fire. Jökull saw this, and became enraged. He was holding the sword Ættartangi, and jumped up and ran over to him, and struck him between the shoulders with the hilt so that he fell forwards, and said; ‘What are you up to, you rogue? Isn’t the chieftain of Vatnsdalur safe from you?’” Bergur jumped up in a rage and grabbed his weapon, but the two men were kept apart. The men of Borg were very unhappy at their treatment, and made charges at the Húnavatn assembly.

Skíðastaðir, below Mt. Vatnsdalsfjall north of Bjarnastaðir, was destroyed by a landslide long ago.
